#018: 5 Ways to Make Your Next Move with Confidence

There are specific times that we walk through, where the best decision isn’t exactly clear. It seems either direction is a good one or just as often, either direction has a bad result. Believe me, I have made as many wrong moves as correct ones but after looking back over my own choices, I have found five key inner choices, that make the bigger ones easier. Maybe they will help you, too.

1. Is your light on?
According to Psalm 119 ‘God’s Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.’ One morning as I was getting ready to go out and work for the day, it occurred to me that I was getting ready to go out into the world, (getting on my path) without even turning the light onto the path in our dark world. Sometimes it seems too simple doesn’t it? A little advice: Turn the light on.

2. Straighten your path.
My mother’s favorite Bible verse, is Proverbs 3:5-6. So I have heard it often, but verse 6 says: ‘In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight. When decisions, big or small, are ahead, a straight path is better. Getting from point A to B quicker, with less distractions and burdens is God’s design. He can use the sidesteps and mistakes all for our good and His glory… but as a close friend pointed out to me… “He don’t HAVE too!”

3. Determine who benefits.
If the true motivation to make a decision or go in a particular direction is really for the benefit of someone other than you… it just might be Christ in you. He is so good at developing His character in us. Come to think of it, isn’t that just how He is, too? So much cost. So many decisions He made, all for the benefit of you and I. Just think of all the times that Jesus made a decision for the ‘least’ person.

4. Get wise council.
Discuss difficult decisions with those with the most wisdom. It may or may not be the oldest person you know. Chances are you know the “wise council” in your circle. Don’t make the decision and then discuss. Weigh it out with your wise counsellors.

4. Trust your decision.
This one is underweighted. Once you have made your decision, quit discussing to get approval. Stop obsessing over the thing. Assuming you have prayed, turned the light on, straightened your path, and gotten wise council. Make your decision and be strong. Your confidence can be in the One who knows you better than you do. Do these things and you will make the right decision. Doubt is your worst enemy. Allow no place for it. Trusting your decision will destroy doubt and build faith!

I hope this blog has been helpful. It also helps others if you share it and if you comment with your own experience! I am praying that even today, God blesses every place that you put your hand.
